Jawa Motorcycles, the iconic Czech brand that disappeared from the Indian motorcycling scene in the 90s, has been reborn. Revived by Classic Legends, a Mahindra & Mahindra subsidiary, Jawa Motorcycles has launched three models in India, with prices starting from INR 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The all-new Jawa range comprises of a Classic, Sport and Bobber model.
With its polished chrome, retro lines and stylish curves, the Classic has all the necessary pedigree that makes it look retro. Features include rounded headlights, dual tone chrome finish on fuel tanks, twin exhausts, flat saddle. wire spoked wheels and a round instrument cluster. It will be available in 3 colour options (Black, Maroon, Grey).[gallery size="full" ids="6380,6378,6379"]The Classic has gas charged twin shock absorbers at the rear and telescopic forks in the front. Braking is via a front disc brake and drum brake at the rear. Single channel ABS is standard. Kerb weight stands at 170kg and fuel tank capacity is 14 litres.
The Jawa 42, on the other hand, gets a flatter set of handlebars for a sportier riding stance. It also gets blacked out front forks and an offset instrument console. It will be available in 6 colour options (Hally’s Teal, Galactic Green, Starlight Blue, Lumos Lime, Nebula Blue and Comet Red).
All Jawa motorcycles will be powered by a 293cc single cylinder, fuel injected, liquid cooled engine that offers 27 hp power and 28 Nm torque. It shares its bore and stroke with the Mahindra Mojo and gets mated to a 6-speed transmission.[gallery size="full" ids="6384,6382"]The Perak, on the other hand, is a factory custom Bobber and will go on sale at a later date and has been priced at INR 1.89 lakh. The bobber gets a floating seat, bar-end mirrors, chopped fenders, and stubby exhaust mufflers. It also has a different subframe and suspension setup at the rear. The bike employs a monoshock and it features a disc brake at the rear.
